Karan Johar not making Haj film with Shahrukh Khan

The rumour that director Karan Johar is planning to make a film on Haj with Shahrukh Khan in the lead role has turned out to be just that - a rumour.

We heard it on the grapevine yesterday that Karan Johar plans to acquire the rights of the National Award winning Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu (Adam’s son Abu) which is about a man’s struggle to go on a Haj.

It was being said that Karan Johar thinks that such a film would be a good creative and commercial proposition after the success of My Name Is Khan which had an Islam-centric theme. Johar planned to cast Shahrukh in the lead role, it was rumoured.

However, Karan Johar has denied any such plan of making a film on Haj with Shahrukh. Rather, Karan is set to buy the remake rights of a French film.

“On record...am NOT planning the remake of the acclaimed malyalam film...actually in london to acquire the rights of a superb french film!! If all goes well the french film will translate beautifully into an indian love story..can't wait to get it going..watch this space for more,” Karan Johar wrote on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

Karan also revealed his plan of directing his next film Student of the Year.

“STUDENT OF THE YEAR...kickstarts mid AUG...and will release mid 2012...am directing after 2 years!! Nervous and excited....” Karan wrote.

Nervous even after having directed so many films? But then a new film is always like a new baby!
