Aamir moves away from SRK

Plans have changed for the actors who were going to come together in Christmas this year...

Actors Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were all set to clash at the box office on Christmas this year, with the release of Don 2 and Reema Kagti's yet-to-be-titled Aamir-starrer. However, plans seem to have changed.

While Shah Rukh's Don 2 will release in December as scheduled, Kagti's Aamir-starrer will be pushed to release on another day. Reason? Don was a hit, and the so sequel is being looked forward to. Also, Don 2 is made on a big budget. Reema Kagti's film, on the other hand, is a small-budget film.

The producers thought it best to shift the date for the betterment of the production. Aamir Khan let his director and producers decide on when the film should be released. So there'll be no Aamir-SRK clash this year as there was when Ghajini and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi released around the same time in 2008.

DON 2 has nothing to do with original

He may have got plenty of help from the Salim-Javed storyline of the original Don (1978) while scripting Don: The Chase Begins Again with Shah Rukh Khan, but for the sequel, Farhan Akhtar admits he’s starting afresh. “Because it was a remake the story had to be somewhat similar. But for Don 2, it was like starting with a clean slate. I had the opportunity to do whatever I wanted to with those characters,” says Farhan.
But it is his next release as an actor, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD), that is getting his attention these days. “Zoya’s (director, sister Zoya Akhtar) film is releasing on July 15, and we want to leave no stone unturned. So Don 2 is on hold for a while, even through all the preparatory work is done. It will release in December as planned,” says the actor-director.
Ask him if Don 2 may get lost in the crowd, given Bollywood’s packed schedule for December and that SRK’s Ra.One would appear at the same time, Farhan retorts, “Ours is a much awaited film, and there’s been a healthy buzz about it even without a single promo on air. I don’t think it’s risky at all. The year-end is a great time to release a film.”

ZNMD, meanwhile, has been racking up comparisons to Farhan’s cult directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and Hollywood hit The Hangover (2009). “Of course ZNMD will be reminiscent of Dil Chahta Hai. It has three guys, a car that’s playing an important role, and one of them finding love along the way on the road trip. But it’s unfair to compare them, because the stories are completely different, and so are the characters. As for The Hangover, I didn’t know they had a copyright over bachelor trips,” he laughs.
Farhan also lights up at the mention of ZNMD’s extended shooting stint in Spain. “It didn’t feel like a staged road trip because we actually did travel that much,” he says, adding, “We shot at about 107 locations and stayed at 12 to 13 different bases.”
He’s even sung a song in the film, but that didn’t feature in Farhan’s recent Pond’s Fun in the Sun concert in the city, where he belted out hits from Rock On!! (2008). “I wanted to play songs that people were familiar with. Maybe once the music releases, we’ll plan an event of this sort,” he says hopefully.

‘It’s best to just ignore rumours’
It was alleged in sections of the press that Farhan Akhtar was having an affair with one of his assistant directors. Enraged at that time, he had decided to take legal action. He had said, “I’m surprised and upset by the complete disregard of the sense of ethics and lack of sensitivity. The article is nothing but misleading and the statements and insinuation made by the author have no basis in fact.”
However, Farhan has now decided against filing the case. “Not only will I have to keep going to court, but I’ll also have to keep seeing them constantly, which is not something I’m interested in,” he says, adding, “This is not the first, but it’s been getting more and more ludicrous every time it happens. I felt they had gone too far this time.”
The actor-director justifies his earlier outburst by saying, “Whatever rumours have been published earlier, people have had the courtesy to ask me for my side of the story.
“This time, they didn’t even bother to do that. Anyway, I think it’s best to just ignore it now.”

SRK: I miss the younger Shahrukh Khan

As SRK gets busier promoting his next youth release ALWAYS KABHI KABHI, the actor is missing his own younger days. Being the quintessential candid that he is known to be, SRK says that he misses the younger Shahrukh Khan while promoting this film.

Says he, "I wish I was twenty years younger so that I could get to romance younger girls too. I miss the younger Shahrukh Khan." This is what SRK feels while his next production, which is a youth subject, gets ready for release.

SRK is quite excited about ALWAYS KABHI KABHI. Speaking about the subject, SRK adds, "I have really liked the film and I am sure the young audience too will feel the same. This film is about chasing your dreams instead of going after something half-heartedly. The youth part of the film is the same as it was in my time, but the way they deal with their life has changed. There are many things in the film that I have not done in my school life."

Shah Rukh to go on Haj pilgrimage

B-Town is abuzz with the news that Karan Johar has bought the rights of National Award winning Malayalam film Adaminde Makan Abu (Abu, son of Adam) for close to 25 lakh.

According to reports, Karan will direct the film and it will star Shah Rukh Khan. The film is about the journey of an elderly Muslim couple trying to go to Haj and the problems they face. In the film the couple are grandparents but the Hindi version will be tweaked to suit SRK.

The original film was directed by debutant Salim Ahmed and starred Salim Kumar and Zarina Wahab in the lead roles. Salim Ahmed will also be a part of KJo's film.

Says an insider, After the success of My Name Is Khan nationally and globally, Shah Rukh and Karan want to do another Islam-centric film.

MNIK also picked up a lot of critical acclaim for them. Although Adaminde Makan Abu is a multi award-winning film, it wasn't a commercial success, but Karan will add his own touch to the film to ensure it connects with the audiences.

Rascals Preponed To 6th October

Rascals which had been expected by some to come on 26th October will now release on 6th October. It was always likely that film will have to move as Ra.One is due for a 26th October releases and therfore Rascals would have a huge problem getting good theatres and show timings as Ra.One is red hot and every exhibitor wants this film at their theatres with as many shows as possible.  Rockstar is also scheduled for this date but that film may be delayed further.

Rascals stars Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kangana Ranaut, Arjun Rampal, Chunky Pandey, Satish Kaushik and others, ‘RASCALS’ is and out and out comedy produced by Sanjay Dutt, Sanjay Ahluwalia and Vinay Choksey and is directed by David Dhawan. The film is presented by Bharat Shah.

The music is composed by the talented duo Vishal and Shekhar and the songs have been choreographed by Bosco-Ceaser. The screenplay has been written by Yunus Sajawal.

The director of photography is Vikas Sivaraman, dialogues are written by Sanjay Chhel and the editor is Nitin Rokade.

'Rascals' versus 'Ra.One' in Diwali

Diwali just got bigger. A few months ago, the makers of RA.ONE took the crucial decision of releasing the film during the festival of lights. Now here's the latest: The producers of RASCALS have also decided to release their film in Diwali. Yes, the David Dhawan-directed film, which stars Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn in the lead, will face the mighty RA.ONE in the festive week. In fact, the producers of RASCALS were unsure whether to clash with a mighty opponent like RA.ONE or arrive in another week. But the 5-day weekend is too tempting to miss and also, two films can easily co-exist during the Diwali week. Perhaps, these two reasons may have prompted the producers of RASCAL to release their film during the rewarding period.

Shah Rukh has an impeccable track record as far as Diwali is concerned. DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE, KUCH KUCH HOTA HAIN, MOHABBATEIN, VEER-ZAARA, DON and OM SHANTI OM were released in the festive week and each of them proved money spinners at the box-office. Ajay Devgn too has been very lucky as far as Diwali goes. GOLMAAL RETURNS and ALL THE BEST have proven hits, so RASCALS could be a hat-trick. Also, it's not the first time an SRK starrer is clashing with a David Dhawan film. Diwali 1998 witnessed the release of SRK's KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and David Dhawan's BADE MIYA CHOTE MIYAN and both had emerged big hits then.

Final Confirmation: Asin With Shah Rukh Khan For "2-States"

For the past 5 months there have been lots of buzzes rounding upon Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘2 States’. One of the reasons is mainly because of author Chetan Bhagat as blockbuster movie ‘3 Idiots’ was based on his novel ‘Five Point Someone’. Soon after the novel ’2 States’ was considered for adaption, it was revealed by producer Sajid Nandiadwala that Priyanka Chopra has been considered for the female lead role opposite Shah Rukh Khan and later Deepika Padukone replaced her.

But finally, it is Asin making her way into the project as Sajid was very much impressed with her performance in his upcoming production ‘Houseful 2’. Asin will be playing the role of a Tamil Brahmin girl, who falls in love with a North Indian guy. How they convince their families with different cultures and lifestyle forms crux of the story and is narrated in a hilarious way.

"Don 2 follows SRK's character into a different adventure" - Farhan Akhtar

Lately away from media focus, actor-director-singer-producer Farhan Akhtar speaks to Subhash K Jha.

How was the long first schedule of Don 2-The Chase Continues in Berlin?
I haven't really figured out the full title. As of now it's just Don 2. It follows Shah Rukh's character into a different adventure. Yes, the character has grown.

Will there be a Don 3?
Yes, why not? Let's see. I do enjoy making Don. Right now I'm just happy creating a whole new story for this character. It's a big challenge for me. We are 60 percent done with Don.

Is it more action-oriented than the first Don?
I don't know how to answer that. There was action in that one, there's action in this one. I hate saying things like, 'You've never seen anything like this before.' Yeah there are action sequences where Don being Don is up to no good.

What was you equation like with Shah Rukh this time?
I feel in terms of his real-life personality Don, suits Shah Rukh to the hilt. In real life too there's a certain flamboyance and magnetism about Shah Rukh. He brings these qualities effortlessly to the part. Also, like me, he has great respect and love for the original Don (featuring Amitabh Bachchan). At the same time he gives the character his own spin. In the second Don we've taken some of the essence of what Shah Rukh did in the first Don. But we've also given him some new things to do.

'Ra.One' to open on a record 3000 screens?

Shah Rukh Khan's Ra.One is expected to open on the largest number of screens in Hindi film history.

The project, which is scheduled to release in October, will be shown on over 3,000 screens, Mumbai Mirror reports.

Ram Mirchandani, who is chief creative officer at Eros International, explained: "RA.One will easily be the biggest release of our times in terms of screens. The reason I am saying 'screens' is because the number of prints will obviously be lesser compared to it."

Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment film has already commenced on a seven month marketing strategy prior to its official release.

Mirchandani added: "I can't give you the exact number of screens since we are months away from the film's release.

"But I can assure [you] that it will definitely be more than 2,500 screens across the nation. In the overseas market too, we will be going all out. It is a Shah Rukh Khan film after all."

The RaOneFanClub on Twitter, which has just crossed the 20,000 follower mark, has also started a daily countdown to the arrival of the superhero project.

In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of screens allocated to new Bollywood releases. Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots set an earlier record in 2009 with 1,760 screens worldwide.

ShahRukh Khan's Rs 1 crore G.One suit goes digital now

The 3D action hero's outfit for Ra.One will get more expensive as Shah Rukh Khan insists on 'computerising' it to add special effects

The blue coloured costume made in Los Angeles especially for the 3D action hero flick Ra.One and costing a whopping rupees one crore is now being converted into CG (computer generated graphics).

This means the bodysuit donned by Shah Rukh Khan's character G.One that the audience will finally see on screen will be created with the help of special effects.

SRK is leaving no stone unturned to get a perfect look for his character G.One in the upcoming 3D action flick

A well-placed source informs, "The perfectionist SRK is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the film is made well."

He doesn't want to compromise on any front. After seeing the rushes of G. One's look, he felt it wasn't up to the mark and could be improved. So after brainstorming sessions with the animation and marketing team he decided to add special effects to the costume."

"A lot of interesting effects like rays emitting out of the outfit have been added."

It goes perfectly with SRK's character who is made of solid electricity and has come in the real world from a virtual world to fight against Ra.One the evil force."

Director of the movie, Anubhav Sinha said, "It is natural to have myths and legends associated with a superhero film. This will be one of the early legends of G.One."

Shah Rukh Khan set to romance Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif under YRF banner

It seems luck is shining on Anushka Sharma. The super jodi of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will soon be back on screens. Anushka has bagged yet another film with King Khan, but the bigger news is, she'll be directed by the King of Romance, Yash Chopra.

Shah Rukh Khan is set to romance Anushka Sharma once again. Headlines Today has learnt that the SRK-Katrina Kaif starrer film that Yash Chopra is directing will feature Anushka as a parallel lead. While SRK had recommended Katrina's name to YRF, Anushka bagged the role because the big daddy of YRF, Yash Chopra, was convinced of her histrionics.

Anushka has now become the only heroine ever to have been directed by both Daddy Yash and Son Aditya Chopra. Among the heroes, this feat has only been reserved for Amitabh Bachchan and King Khan. So, the spot light seems to shift from the Priyankas, Kareenas and Deepikas to the Bangalorean, who is slowly, but surely inching her way to the top in B-town.

SRK adds another dimension to RA.One

Shah Rukh Khan isn’t leaving any stone unturned to ensure that his forthcoming superhero film takes its audience by storm. Now, the actor-producer is planning to turn RA.One’s action sequences into 3D.

SRK, along with director Anubhav Sinha, saw portions of the footage that was test converted into 3
by Prime Focus Technologies on Wednesday. And to say the least, they loved it. “Yes, we watched it. And all of us, including Shah Rukh, were happy with it,” says Sinha. The actor on his part, says that if the conversion, which is done in post-production “looks nice and I really hope it does, we are surely going ahead with it (the 3D plans).”

According to a source, though Shah Rukh is elated with the end result, he is still consulting his executive producers before taking the final call. “We need about 60 to 70 days to turn all the sequences into 3D. If we are ready with what we want on time, after handing over the VFX to Prime Focus, I will convert parts of RA.One into 3D, but not the entire film,” says Shah Rukh. Though the conversion process will up the film’s already-sky-rocketing budget of an estimated R 150 crore even further, the actor is excited.

Even as he and his team members mull over taking the final call, timing will be a major issue as the producer is adamant on releasing the film this Diwali. “So, besides the quality, schedules have to work out well too. Else, Shah Rukh will go ahead with the non-3D version,” says a source. A highly placed official from Prime Focus too informs that SRK hasn’t got back to them about it yet. SRK remained unavailable for comment after the screening.

The superstar, on his part, has had to make a lot of tough decisions on the film’s post-production front. “My executive producers are in a quandary right now about several things. So I’m trying to micromanage everything. Sometimes, I too end up saying, ‘I don’t want to do this’ and ‘I want to go home,’” he laughs, before adding, “It has been a busy time for me, we have to finish it. It has been a difficult film to make.”

Apart from SRK, the science-fiction film, which has been under production for the last two years, stars Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in pivotal roles.

SRK introduces animated G.One on Twitter

Shah Rukh Khan is leaving no stone unturned to promote his forthcoming super-hero film Ra.One. Even though the film is scheduled to release in October, promotions of the film have already begun.

After launching the first promo of the film recently, SRK has now plans to launch an animated version of his character G.One. The animated character will be part of all the merchandise of Ra.One. SRK even posted a pic of the animated G.One and tweeted, "one of the little g.one made by the graphics team at ra.one for the website and merchandise etc. hope all the goodies get made fast and launched. little g.one says a computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me in kick boxing!!"

Shah Rukh Khan to tour with Akon

SRK's planning a mega-budget, multi-country 'Ra.One' tour in September which might also see US entertainer Akon sing 'Chammak Challo', while Kareena Kapoor performs to it.

Shah Rukh Khan is going all out to ensure that his sci-fi thriller " Ra.One" gets the right kind of opening at the box office this October. News is that SRK's planning a multi-country "Ra.One" tour in September, which will culminate in the US towards the end of the month. R&B star Akon, who has sung the "Chammak Challo" song in "Ra.One" is expected to be part of the tour.

Says a source, "The world tour is almost confirmed and the final dates are being worked out. It's going to be massive and the entire cast including SRK and Kareena Kapoor is expected to perform. The team will perform in the UK and US, and Akon might accompany them there. He's already been approached for the tour. It depends on SRK's knee surgery. If he gets operated on by July, then he'll recover in time for the tour in September. The tour will last two to three weeks, and it's his biggest plan now."
